GLOCAL Civic Essay Contest 2026
The GLOCAL Civic Essay Contest 2026 invited youth across Canada aged 15 to 35 to engage thoughtfully with the public issues shaping civic life today. Submissions are now closed; results are announced Spring/Summer 2026. The top 20 essays earned Civic Travel Grants of up to $1,000.

Open to youth aged 15 to 35, this national contest encouraged evidence-based, accessible and non-partisan writing on a civic issue that matters in Canada. Participants could draw on research, lived experience or comparative perspectives, with a focus on clarity, responsibility and civic insight rather than ideology.
Who could apply
High-school students, college and university students, graduate students and professionals in Canada were all welcome. No prior research experience was required.
What you could write about
Topics included mental health, housing, education, governance, justice and human rights, Indigenous reconciliation, economic inclusion, AI and society, public safety, newcomer experiences and community development. Comparative and global perspectives were encouraged.
